Debate = Yawn; Harvard and Stanford pass/fail?

with one comment

The debate was pretty boring. All the polls seem to indicate that Obama was the more successful of the two candidates, and I’m somewhat inclined to agree. He certainly annoyed me less.

“My friends…”

Shut up! I’m not your friend, pal!

Anyway, Harvard and Stanford are considering going to a modified pass/fail for their law schools, which means essentially a doing-away with grades.

Above the Law provides me with this video, though.

That was crazy. I hope all law schools switch, and we can all do stuff like that.

What a Crock

with one comment

I’m appalled at Senator Obama over the fact that he has voted to pass the Telecom Retroactive Immunity Bill (not its official name, but I don’t know what else to call it).

So much for change. What a crock of shit. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

The Republican and Democratic Parties need to be thrown out on their asses. I’m tired of this trite song-and-dance routine, pandering to the masses, saying one thing and outright doing something completely opposite. I’m so mad and disappointed that I can’t even formulate a coherent response.

Goddammit.

EDIT: After doing some research, it seems Obama voted in favor of an amendment to the bill that would eliminate the telecom immunity, but that amendment was voted down. Furthermore, it seems President Bush threatened to veto the entire FISA bill and other bills if the telecom immunity was not included.

Regardless of those facts, I’m still disappointed that the Democrat-run Congress I voted for back in 2006 is comprised of a bunch of panderers and pussies who can’t even band together to overturn a veto.

I’m so disillusioned and disenchanted, I’m considering voting for Cookie Monster in November. Fuck.

Grab bag: Coldplay; Dell; Obama pwns Giuliani

with one comment

Well, it’s been awhile. Work has, unfortunately, exhausted me entirely too much, especially since I’ve been doing some overtime. I know, it’s a lame excuse, but it’s all you’re getting.

A few things:Viva La Vida

  • Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends was released on the 17th, and I haven’t really made up my mind about it. Parts of it strike me as kind of “eh,” while other parts really remind me of a strange fusion of Parachutes/A Rush of Blood to the Head; whether this is good or bad, I’m not entirely sure. The melodies are new, the lyrics are little lacking, the actual musicality is in the satisfactory range. I would have like a bit more experimentation a la X&Y, but I think I am the only person on Earth who actually liked that album.
  • My laptop from Dell has hit a terrible snag. Apparently a fire at the LG Chem plant has caused a severe shortage of lithium batteries, which is affecting the production and shipment of my new laptop. Dell Customer Service said it could be up to 30 days for them to receive the new shipments of batteries. Gasp! 30 days?! This hurts. The funny part is, I tweeted about this on Tweeter and a very kind guy who works for Dell saw said tweet and looked into my order for me, hence the aforementioned information. Props to him.
  • And finally, there’s this, which is such a masterful bit of pwnage, a tear eked its way out of my wizened eye. Giuliani should STFU and GBTW.

That’s about it for now. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.

Seriously, Hillary supporters?

with 6 comments

Here’s something I don’t understand:

Why would you, an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter–and thus a supporter of the Democratic Party by extension–vote for McCain in the General Election? McCain’s policies are 180 degrees in the other direction from Hillary’s, because he is a Republican. There is little to no overlap between the two parties; voting for McCain over Obama is a faux pas of the highest degree. Any of the platform positions Hillary had promised you would quite possibly see the light of day with an Obama presidency, and it goes without saying that they will be put to bed in perpetuity if McCain wins the White House.

Why is this so hard to understand? I’ve heard this so often from Hillary supporters: “Well, Obama doesn’t have any experience, so I will vote for McCain (or not at all).” That is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard, and I know many idiots. Being president isn’t a matter of experience; there is no trial run to see if you will make a good one. Oftentimes people say that governors make good presidents; this is somewhat true (Clinton) and somewhat false (Bush). It’s all a matter of personality and the people a president surrounds himself with. Obama is graced with charisma and charm, so that goes a long way. We haven’t had a charismatic president since Kennedy (Clinton kinda counts, but I wouldn’t say he was charismatic; he was personable, sure). McCain, unfortunately, has all of the personality and charm of shoe leather, and he’s betrayed everything he used to stand for.

So, in short, voting for McCain over Obama is stupid, Hillary supporters. Nothing you wanted to gain with a Hillary presidency will be gained if McCain wins. Apparently this fact isn’t as obvious as I thought.
