The Twice-Damned BCS
As you may or may not know, Texas fell to #3 in the BCS standings due to a favorable computer ranking for The University of Oklahoma (“OWHO?”; “Sucklahoma”; “Chokelahoma”; rarely “OU”). This means, of course, that OU will head to Kansas City to play Missouri, which will probably be a massacre, unless my sacrificial virgins plan works out.*
Alabama and Florida play this weekend for the SEC Championship. These are the scenarios I can see happening:
SCENARIO #1
1. OU beats Missouri in the Big XII Championship game (“Can’t Beat Texas Bowl”): Great, fine, who really cares? It’s highly likely that OU will stomp Missouri, especially since the latter just lost to unranked Kansas. Way to go, guys.
2. Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship game: This is also the most likely outcome of this game, as ‘Bama has been described as a “paper tiger.”
3. Florida and OU play in the BCS National Championship game: Florida would hopefully stomp all over Chokelahoma, which has a proud tradition of blowing bowl games (cf. Boise State, 2006).
SCENARIO #2
1. Missouri beats OU: This is highly unlikely, as mentioned above, but Mizzou could have a stellar performance and OU a tragic one.
1a. OU falls in the BCS rankings: This goes without saying. It’d be a devastating loss.
1b. Texas moves up in the BCS rankings: We’d have to fill the spot left by OU.
2. Florida beats Alabama: Alabama drops from the #1 spot and either Texas or Florida fills it. I’m not sure which, really.
3. Florida and Texas play in the BCS National Championship game: WTF? How did this happen? Will we love the BCS again? No, probably not.
Alternatively, Alabama can beat Florida, which means they drop, and with OU dropping, Texas is boosted to the #2 position and plays Alabama in the BCS National Championship game. I’d prefer that rather than playing Florida, to be honest.
So, I think that’s how it could break down. I’m sure Mr. L_ZIEB over at the MIP Sports Blog could swoop by and correct me. I’m no expert, merely an amateur and enthusiastic fan who would love to see the BCS die a swift, painful death.
*Not actually real plan
The Damned BCS
Well. It’s been awhile, I know. School’s been taking its toll, what with the memo I turned in yesterday and exams looming. But I am trying to remain sane.
Tech/OU game is on right now, and I am forced to root for OU. I want Tech to lose; I want them to drop in the rankings; and I want their fans to shut the hell up. I can’t stand them. Bandwagoners, all.
OU will lead going into the half, so we’ll see what happens in the second one.
EDIT: Looks like OU spanked Tech, and Texas is #2 in the BCS rankings. Here’s hoping OU squeezes by OSU with a win so Texas wins the three-way tie and plays in the Big 12 Championship.
Short readings make me happy
Apparently my Contracts and Torts readings for tomorrow are absurdly short. I haven’t looked yet. If you hadn’t gathered already, I’m a bad student. Oh so bad.
As you may or may not know, this is the last season of Boston Legal, which absolutely breaks my heart. Allen Shore is my hero. If I could, I would be just like him, except that lawyer can’t exist because he’s so ridiculous and incendiary that he would constantly be in contempt of court.
But I can dream. Maybe I can open and close like he does. Hm.
I’m not even going to look at the bailout bill and how it was voted down in the House, because when I do, I want to go hide in my closet and not come out until 2012.
These days I kinda feel socially retarded (Is that politically correct? I don’t even know. I feel socially inept. There). My section feels positively clique-ish. And I can’t help but recall my freshman year of college and how this is playing out just like that did. But then again, I met so many cool people after and during that first year.
Don’t get me wrong, I have met some cool people. I’m just not feeling any connection like I used to. I seriously miss my old groups in Austin. You know who you are.
On another note, USC lost to Oregon State and dropped from No. 1 to No. 9. Now, let’s think about this. Ohio State lost to USC when the latter was #1 and dropped to 14. USC is beaten by an unranked Oregon State and drops to 9. What the hell, rankings?
Well whatever, Texas is 5, and that’s all I care about. I hope they can hold onto it. Stupid Oklahoma.
